About Us

Research
without
compromise.

The Grey Earth was founded in 2026 by a group of researchers, analysts, and policy specialists who were tired of watching climate research get diluted by political convenience and corporate influence.

Our Story

Born from
resilience.

The Grey Earth started in 2026, out of a problem its founders kept running into. The evidence on climate and ocean governance was solid, largely public, and largely ignored — locked inside journals, or diluted by the time it reached the people who write policy.

So rather than start another journal, we started a publishing desk. A small group — researchers, a finance lead, and a product team — set out with one mission: produce work rigorous enough to survive scrutiny and clear enough that a minister, a journalist, or a fisher can act on it.

We are new, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Today The Grey Earth is a small core team with an advisory board, publishing our first reports on ocean governance and the environmental cost of geopolitical competition. No corporate funding, no fossil fuel ties, and everything we publish is free to read.

Principles

How we work

Independence

We accept no funding from fossil fuel companies, their foundations, or affiliated entities. Our donors cannot review or influence our findings.

Open Access

Every report, dataset, and methodology we produce is freely available. Knowledge about the climate crisis should not be paywalled.

Rigor

Every report is checked by outside specialists before it goes out. We publish our methodology, our sources, and any conflicts of interest upfront.

Impact

We track whether our research changes policy, not just citation counts. If it sits unread, we have failed.

Funding

Radically
transparent.

We are in our first year, so the funding picture is short. The Grey Earth is supported by its founders and by independent research grants. We accept nothing from fossil fuel companies, their foundations, or affiliated entities.

As we take on outside funding, we will publish the donor list, the amounts, and our conflict of interest declarations — in full, and before the research they support goes out. No donor reviews or influences our findings, and none ever will.
